What is it?

eCharge Remote is a development tool designed to connect to PCCharge over tcp/ip to process credit cards. It is a dll developed in .NET for COM interoperability, so it will work natively in .NET, but will also work flawlessly in any language that supports COM! Since it uses tcp/ip, eCharge Remote allows any application to connect to PCCharge remotely - that is, the calling application does not need to be on the same computer or even the same network as PCCharge. This package does away with the default shared folders method of implementation with PCCharge. Shared folders can present a problem when upgrading or moving servers or if user rights are changed, and are generally very undependable.

Why do we need eCharge Remote when we have pscharge.dll that comes with the PCCharge devkit?

The pscharge.dll developed by Verifone is file system dependent. It depends on shared folders to function and thus is very network dependent. Any changes to folder permissions, software updates, and any number of other factors can break the connection to PCCharge. eCharge Remote is file system independent because it connects to PCCharge via tcp/ip. It is also MUCH faster than pscharge.dll! Because it is native to .NET, it is very easy to implement eCharge Remote in .NET applications. eCharge Remote is also very easy to implement into applications that support COM because it was developed with COM in mind and has very simple interfaces.

I have 2 merchant accounts. Is that supported?

Absolutely! eCharge Remote will work with all the merchant accounts that you have setup in PCCharge. All of the processors that PCCharge supports are supported through eCharge Remote.
